About the Song
When Bromo and Ozly were mere lads of fifteen or sixteen, ever-precocious Bromo composed “Honky-Tonk Blues,” the first of his many chefs-d’oeuvre, in an attempt (one supposes) to cheer up his friend Ozly following one of Ozly’s several breakups with that brown-eyed girl who kept coming around anyway, just to hang out, and who never caught on that the song was about her when Bromo and Ozly performed it for her on those many occasions now so long ago.
Honky-Tonk Blues
Words and Music by Byron Sheppard
Oh, because you don't really love me,
that's why I'm singing the honkey-tonk blues.
Oh, because you don't really need me,
that's why I'm singing the honkey-tonk blues.
Well you left me for another guy this morning,
and you won't be back until this afternoon.
Oh, you'll leave me for a kangaroo this evening,
and all I can say is "I hope you'll be back soon!"
Oh, because you don't really love me,
that's why I'm singing the honkey-tonk blues.
Oh, because you don't really need me,
that's why I'm singing the honkey-tonk blues.
